About

MEET DAVE LAWSON

Dave Lawson is a longtime record collector who can often be found DJing private events, weddings, corner bars and community parties. You might have seen him at the Detroit Urban Craft Fair, the Metro Times Best Of party, the Detroit Free Press Marathon, Motor City Soul Club, or at his now-retired weekly at the Loving Touch (2010-2014). Or maybe you’ve heard him playing rare Christmas records on WDET as the special guest on Jon Moshier’s annual (Not So) Modern Music Holiday Special, which won the 2024 Musical Programming Merit Award from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.

Dave is also the author of an essay on the social commentary in the lyrics of the Coasters that was featured in the Museum of Americana, which you can read here.

When he is not collecting and listening to records, Dave is also a songwriter in the Going Gones and a local producer, working on recent releases by the Codgers and Sodra. He’s previously been a member of the Scrappers, The Pop Project, the Sights and the Singles.

Visit his DJ Website to hire him for an event.
