THE SHAKE OUT

Weekly radio show hosted by DJ Dave Lawson, pulling from his always-growing library to share shouldabeen hits and forgotten favorites. Mostly 45s, always vinyl!

New episodes of THE SHAKE OUT air Tuesdays 8-9pm on Detroit Public Radio, 101.9FM WDET, and are available to stream immediately after airing on wdet.org. Archives older than two weeks are available on this site.

WHAT’S IT SOUND LIKE?

THE SHAKE OUT invites you into Dave Lawson’s ever-expanding record collection for a weekly exploration of music’s hidden stories. Each episode drops the needle on forgotten 45s and LPs to uncover surprising connections between artists, producers, and songwriters—many with Detroit roots—turning deep cuts and forgotten tracks into revelations. It’s part history lesson, part
listening party, all guided by Dave’s infectious passion for the hunt.

Feel-good favorites blend with shouldabeen smashes, with a focus on the incredible music made right here in Detroit. No genre is off limits, but expect lots of rhythm and blues, soul, funk, calypso, reggae, garage rock, girl groups, indie, power pop, roots rock, disco, honky tonk and more.
